Parkour in the dark.

Parkour in the dark.

What are your thoughts on doing parkour when it's dark and there is little lighting?
There are a few buildings .etc in Pangbourne which I want to explore, particularly the primary school, but I'd rather wait until it's darker so I don't get raged at by angry caretakers.
My first thoughts are that it'd be more difficult and dangerous, but good training.

Edit: The lack of sight doesn't help. I was practicing kongs over a medium-ish wall, eventually doing them fine. Then I moved on to a much lower rail to do more kongs as I was heading home, and I kept completely misjudging how high it was and ending up landing completely wrong because I couldn't actually tell how high I was. I was used to the wall and thought I was higher than I really was over the rail because I couldn't see and so I messed up. Also, because I couldn't see the rail very well at all, despite going much higher than I needed to I kept being scared of clipping my feet on the rail for some reason, further adding to the fucking-uppyness.
tldr; being able to see helps greatly when doing parkour

Night jams are an important part of training (and something we haven't done for a long time. We briefly had hell nights, and have played a few night games). I dont believe your problems stem from the lack of sight, rather the effect this has on your confidence. As long as you can actually see the obstacle, you should be able to judge hight and such without much difficulty. As with how you could train in the wet, you have to change how you are moving, being more aware of your surroundings.

Actually I have trouble with depth perception in low light, but I think thats just me tbh. A good time to practice the basics, keep your strength levels up with conditioning, etc

The main problem I'm having in this dark is there's this one fairly low rail I can't seem to kong without completely messing up, even though I've been practicing kongs on much higher objects. Although I reckon it's something to do with the dark, I'll have to experiment in daylight.

Everyone has problems with depth perception at night due to the way the eye works. The human eye is made up of rods and cones, rods work better in low light but lack the detail of the cones.

I suppose if you practice enough in low light, muscle memory will compensate for reduced vision.

Training with reduced sight or no sight at all really improves your self-confidence as well. I've begun to sometimes train with closed eyes. It's dangerous, so one should take the prerequisites required (make sure you don't run into people, can do it with open eyes, it isn't a potentially highly dangerous situation, etc.), but you get to trust your body much more and come to rely much less on your eyes - as Dom said, muscle memory will compensate for the lack of sight.

So, if you train with closed eyes often, you might find that you become drastically better at training in darker areas, and generally has a better overview of the situation you're in.

haha dom, a level biology ftw :p

i'v dont an awfull lot of training at night, and i think alot of it is confidence, but you do get used to it.

also my friends and i do what we call 'night missions' very late night dark training sessions, quite often using various roofs which are to risky in daylight due to angry humans.

can be very enjoyable, and very wortwhile, definately helps when you get back into training in the day :p

i think Liam meant training, but up to you to be honest. Is it more like pk, or just climbing and stuff? General or training should be okay.
