Cat Leap :: Tutorial

The cat leap is a movement which is used to traverse between gaps that are to long or high to clear with a precision or running leap. There also has to be enough space to use both your arms and legs.

Focus on where your hands and feet are going to go, much the same way you would for a precision.

Jump up at an approximate 45 degree angle, launching yourself towards the target while still focusing on arm/leg placement. As you jump, a sharp exhale of air helps to improve alertness and concentration.

While you are in the air, look towards where you want to land and decide where to place your hands and feet.

Bring your arms forward to grab onto the top of the obsticle and bend your knees, bringing your feet forward to absorb the impact from the landing.

Although it is difficult to do in this situation, in most cases you would want your feet to touch the wall first allowing your knees to bend before your hands make contact with the wall. This will ensure you slow down enough to be able to stick to the wall and climb up/over. As you land, taking a sharp intake of air helps to cushion the landing, the legs and arms take the force together to make the landing quiet.

Now you want to pop up and over the obsticle. Push up with both your arms and legs and swing yourself over.

Push up with both arms, kick your leg upwards and swing yourself over.

Variations

360 Cat leap - A cat leap with a 360 degree rotation in mid air on the horizontal axis before you land.
