If there is a large drop the other side of the railing or wall you are about to vault or you are unsure of the terrain on the other side, then it is best to use the turn vault. It is easy to go back on yourself from this movement if you need to.

Take off can be one footed or two, but it’s easier with two. you’ll want to make sure you have a firm grip before or as you take off. Remember that you will be rotating around the rail here - if you’re going to swing your legs to the right, then you’ll need have your left hand gripping thumb side up, so that you can pivot around it. The other hand should grip as normal.
| Jump up, making sure you’ve got a firm grip. Begin to look over the rail, to get your weight shifting to the other side. |
Push away from the rail with your outside (normally gripped) hand. Your weight should be coming over the rail now, and your legs coming past where your outside hand was placed. Stay focused on the rail.
Your legs should still be quite high up from clearing the rail. Your outside hand should be coming round to the other side of your gripped hand, ready to find a grip for itself. you’ll probably be looking at this hand at this point.
Finish off the rotation and begin to bring your feet down to the wall/rail. You should be able to see both your hands and feet at this point, so you can focus on whichever you feel is necessary.
Make sure you have a firm grip with both hands as your feet come in towards the wall/rail. Remember that you’ll be landing on your toes.
| Absorb the landing by crouching down. If your feet are placed against a vertical surface then this will help you to keep your grip. From here you’ll probably want to drop down - either drop straight (still facing the wall), leaning forwards slightly, and absorb your landing, or turn in midair so that you can land and roll. |

Variations
The switch turn vault begins as a normal lazy vault, but once you have exchanged hands you flick your legs back in towards the wall. Bring your other hand around and grip as usual.
